Coleraine’s Yasmin Geddis shortlisted for ‘Inspirational Woman of the Year’ award

Yasmin Geddis from Coleraine has been shortlisted for the 2019 Inspirational Woman of the Year award, as part of ITV show ‘Lorraine’.

Yasmin was nominated for the award after she set up the ‘The Zachary Geddis Break The Silence Trust‘ (ZGBTST), named after her brother, who struggled with mental health issues.

Zachary tragically took his own life due to his struggles with his mental health, and just 7 months after his passing, Yasmin set up the trust.

ZGBTSTS aims to bring more awareness to the community of Northern Ireland surrounding the topic of Mental Health and decrease the stigma surrounding Suicide.

Speaking about being shortlisted Yasmin said;

“I am completely honoured to be shortlisted for the Woman of the Year 2019 award!

“Being the only shortlisted woman from Northern Ireland I knew I was going to be up against some tough competition from 2 fabulous woman and they did not disappoint.”

Yasmin video package appeared on ITV’s Lorraine on Thursday morning and the winner will be announce by its presenter, Lorraine Kelly soon.

Councillor Stephanie Quigley joined Yasmins Mum to watch the announcement on ITV and afterwards said;

“Yasmin has done such incredible work setting up the Zachary Geddis Break The Silence Trust . Takes amazing courage to walk through the unthinkable pain of losing her brother Zachary to suicide , and yet still reach out to help those in crisis.”

You can show your support by attending a fundraising coffee morning hosted by the Mayor Sean Bateson in Cloonavin on Wednesday 16th October from 10.30am

The fundraiser will see the launch of the ‘Keep The Light On campaign’ by the charity who have been picked as Mayor Bateson official charity for the year ahead.
