History of Ballymoney Royal British Legion book launched

On Saturday 14th September 2019 members of Ballymoney Branch were delighted to meet and launch their book on the history of The Royal British Legion Ballymoney Branch.

Special guests included staff from Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Museum Services, Researcher Linda Logan and Senator Gerard Craughwell President of the Irish Metropolitan Branch Royal British Legion.

The book was the conclusion of research conducted over a period of two years during which many fascinating articles, stories and photographs were discovered.

As the Branch moves towards it’s centenary year in 2023 it was decided that it was appropriate to capture in written form as much of the Branch’s history as possible.

The research yielded much more material than could be included in the book and it also revealed that there are names missing from the Ballymoney War Memorial. This will be followed up by the Branch with further research in due course.

Chairman Mark McLaughlin stated he was delighted that a considerable amount of the Branch’s history was now captured in written format but unfortunately there was probably a lot of history which had been lost through the years.

He encourages every Branch to consider carrying out this type of research project.

If anyone is interested in having a copy of our book please contact the Branch Committee members.
