Coleraine & District Samaritans have launched a new contactless giving pod named ‘Sammy’ at Tesco in Ballymoney.
‘Sammy’ can accept card donations as well as cash.
David McKeown, Director of Coleraine & District Samaritans said: “Samaritans depends solely on donations from the public, and like every other charity, its ability to fundraise has been severely affected by the Covid-19 restrictions.
“Society has gone contactless in a big way and this new device allows small contributions to be given really conveniently by anyone. There is still a cash box for traditional donations.”
Samaritans are volunteers with no public funding, so all money raised is used to provide the listening service and promote Samaritans as a trusted and safe place for anyone who feels distressed for any reason to express feelings. It always helps to talk.
Ballymoney Tesco Community Champion, Jackie Brogan is delighted that Coleraine Samaritans have launched their new service in Ballymoney.
She said: “Ballymoney Tesco has a really strong reputation and track record for supporting local charities and we are so proud to host the launch and keep Sammy in the store for the next week. It’s novel and it is the future for fundraising.”
David McKeown said; “The plan is for Sammy to move around the Causeway Coast and Glens area, spending a week in any outlet interested in hosting us.”
