Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council is celebrating the success of its pilot pre-loved Christmas toy appeal.

In the run up to the festive period, Council asked residents to donate used toys and games which were then distributed to deserving families.

A special collection point was set up at Limavady Household Recycling Centre from Monday 7th December until Wednesday 18th December, with generous residents donating items ranging from bikes and bouncers to Scrabble and scooters.

Working in partnership with Limavady Community Development Initiative (LCDI), over 350 pre-loved items were donated to 54 different families.

The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, Alderman Mark Fielding, said: “As part of Council’s LiveSmart ethos, we wanted people to reuse and recycle where they could at Christmas. By donating toys that they no longer needed, participants have also made a positive impact on the lives of those within our community. We cannot underestimate the difference this will have made at such an important time of year. I want to thank all of those who donated to this appeal, along with our partners at LCDI, who were central to its success.

“All donations were gratefully received, and will have brought untold joy to many children. We look forward to building on this pilot success next year.”

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s LiveSmart initiative aims to encourage, inform and involve all our residents, businesses and visitors to live more lightly on our planet by taking simple steps to protect our environment.
