A courier driver who police spotted using a hand-held mobile phone whilst he was at the wheel of a van in Loughgiel was trying to get directions to an address, defence solicitor Stewart Ballentine said.

Gareth Dunwoody (27), of Sandhurst Manor, Galgorm, was given three penalty points and fined £75 in his absence at Coleraine Magistrates Court on August 19.

His solicitor entered a guilty plea regarding the mobile phone offence which was detected on February 26 this year.

Mr Ballentine said the vehicle is now fitted with a ‘hands free’ device.
