Drunk driver 3 times over limit disqualified

A driver who blew over three times the drink driving limit has been disqualified after a District Judge said that it was “one of the highest reading” that he was likely to deal with for “quite some time”.

Coleraine restaurant worker Weng Choong, with an address Killead Road Antrim, was charged October 22 this year on the Frosses Road after police arrested the defendant with being over the drink driving limit following a police stop where an officer smelt alcohol on his breath.

Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on November 16, sitting in Ballymena, heard that the defendant blew an evidential breath test of 129, with the legal limit being 35.

A Defence Lawyer in the case said his client, a restaurant chef, had been off work the previous day and had consumed alcohol but had still been over the limit the following day when he got into his vehicle and drove.

District Judge Peter King sentenced the defendant to a three-year disqualification and ordered him to pay a £350 fine alongside a £15 offenders levy.
