Saturday’s flying programme also includes the Irish Coastguard S-92 and the MiG-15 while on Sunday the Red Arrows and RAF Falcons will showcase their unique skills in the skies.

The first aircraft will take-off on Saturday at 1.20pm with an earlier start on Sunday of 12.30pm.

The Deputy Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Trevor Clarke said: “There’s a unique atmosphere associated with Air Waves Portrush which stems from its fantastic aerial entertainment. The event’s varied flying display set against the beautiful location of East Strand makes for an unforgettable weekend which attracts thousands of people. There’ll be lots to see and do on the ground as well, including our biggest STEM Village featuring over 20 exhibitors from the education, medical and engineering sectors. We’ll also have our popular family fun zone and a showcase of our fantastic local produce from Naturally North Coast and Glens Artisan Market. Its set to be an event to remember and we are looking forward to welcoming new and returning visitors throughout the weekend.”

On Saturday evening, the Crescent in Portstewart will host the Air Waves Concert, pyrotechnic air display and fireworks, sponsored by Morelli’s from 7pm. This fabulous evening of free entertainment will celebrate the centenary of the RAF through live music from Villa in France and Otis and the Elevators complemented by themed dance displays from Ballroom Blitz. The air displays will be performed by Mark Jefferies in the Extra 300 and Brendan O’Brien in the Piper J3 Cub using wing-fitted Roman Candles, smoke systems, lights and lasers to thrills the crowds as they light up the dusk sky-line. With compere Brian Moore overseeing proceedings and some recognisable film theme music and voiceovers, it’s set to be an exciting addition to the weekend.
