Outrage as the OPEN could CLOSE some of Portrush Medical Centre services?

It no real surprise that during the British Open later this year, that there will be disruptions as 1000’s flock each days to watch the golf. But the last thing you expect it to affect is what if often a vital medical service to locals.
The organisers of the Open have put in place measures to mitigate the disruption that may and likely will be caused by the major event during their several years of planning, but the recent concern over a reduced GP service may not have been foreseen. Never the less it has caused outrage in the local community after Portrush Medical made the announcement.
A spokesperson for the practice said;

“Due to parking and waiting restrictions imposed during the open golf week please be aware we will only be able to operate a limited service for patients.

The GP’S will endeavour to ensure all patients requiring immediate and necessary treatment will be cared for to the best of our ability.

Unfortunately, all review and routine appointments will have to be suspended for this week.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding but due to the exceptional circumstances we regret that this is beyond our control

Please do not run out of repeat medication during the open. We strongly advise you to order your repeat prescription a week in advance if it falls due that week as pharmacy services will also be disrupted”.

If services are reduced, this could see patients referring themselves to Causeway A& E or the out of hours service, Dalriada Urgent care. Stretching health provisions further than they already are.
The outrage expressed by locals is evident by comments made on social media.
