Sinn Fein Councillor Leanne Peacock has called on those of state pension age to make sure they are claiming the full amount of Pension Credit they may be entitled to.
Cllr Peacock said: “Many people may not realise they are entitled to Pension Credit and I welcome an initiative from the Minister for Communities , Carál Ní Chuilín, to raise awareness of the scheme.
“In particular, some people are not aware that having a pension, savings or own your home is not a barrier to claiming Pension Credit.
“People may also be entitled to additional Pension Credit if they are a carer, severely disabled, responsible for a child or young person or have certain housing costs.
“Some pensioners may also be entitled to Savings Credit depending on when they reached state pension age.
“I would encourage all pensioners to check they are getting all they are entitled to by calling 0800 587 0892. There are many people out there not currently receiving everything that they are entitled to, awareness is key, if you or a family member are state pension age it is worth checking if you may be entitled to more help. Make the call!”
