Detectives are appealing for witnesses and information following the report of an assault and robbery in the Mark Street area of Portrush in the early hours of yesterday morning, Sunday 15 December.

At approximately 2.55am, a 23-year-old man was assaulted by an unknown male who had approached him as he exited his parked vehicle. He was punched several times to the face. The assailant then produced what is believed to be a hammer before stealing the man’s phone. A second unknown male had approached the parked car and took the car keys from a second man who was sitting in the vehicle at the time.

When the two injured parties, along with a third male, tried to protect themselves in the vehicle, the two suspects smashed the windows.

Detective Inspector Winters would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Mark Street in and around 2.30am/3.15am and who may have witnessed this incident, or anyone who has any information that could assist with enquiries, to contact police at Coleraine on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 431 of 15/12/19.

Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
