Area of Kilrea closed following a sexual assault

Police are appealing for information and witnesses following a report of a serious sexual assault on a woman in Church Place, Kilrea last night, Wednesday, 23 October.

At approximately 8.30pm as the woman was walking along a laneway she was assaulted by an unknown male.

Detective Sergeant Olphert would appeal to anyone who has information that could assist us with our enquiries to contact detectives at Ballymoney on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1779 23/10/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.

Cllr Adrian McQuillan has said;

“I totally condemn this type of incident and would like to say that this is totally out of keeping with kilrea and the people in kilrea.

“Several of it’s residents have spoken to me and are very worried that this has taken place in their area.

“I would urge anyone with any information to come forward to the police immediately.”
