Attempted murder suspect refused bail

A 33-year-old man who has been charged with attempted murder and affray appeared before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Ballymena this morning (September 27).

Arthur Hanson (33) of Glentaisie Park, Portrush, appeared via video link from Antrim court custody. A Detective Constable told the court she could connect the defendant to the charges following an incident in the Glenarm Avenue area of Portrush on Friday, September 24.

Court heard details of the case, including previous events earlier that day on the Causeway street area of the town where a fight had broke out. which eventually led to the incident before the court.

The incident involved a single stab wound to the victim, who was revealed to the court as a relative of the defendant.

The court also heard that the defendant was currently out on bail for three other matters and that he had a criminal record extending into 81 charges.

District Judge Mr Peter King refused bail, citing a high risk of reoffending and danger of the defendant impeding the investigation.

The defendant was remanded in custody to appear via video link at Coleraine Magistrates’ Court on October 25.

A woman in her thirties and another man in his twenties were also arrested for their alleged involvement but have been released on bail pending further enquiries.
