According to figures released by the Department for Infrastructure (DfI), a total of 990 road issues were reported by local Ballymoney and North Antrim representatives over the previous year.

The figures obtained through an FOI request, cover the period June 1, 2020, up to May 31, 2021, and only cover Councillors elected to the Ballymoney DEA and North Antrim MLA’s.

This included 24 traffic management issues and 676 street light problems reported to the Department.

DUP Councillor, Alderman John Finlay, made the most reports to DfI for both road and street light issues, 296 and 134 respectively.

Party colleague Councillor Ivor Wallace followed, reporting 166 road issues and 263 street light problems and Sinn Fein Councillor Leanne Peacock with 176 and 93 reports made.

In response to the FOi request, the DfI said: “The information detailed in the table above is the summation of the written correspondence from the Dfl Roads Mail Tracking Database and faults reports from the Dfl Roads Management System that the Department still holds from
the period requested.

“However, due to the length of the period requested some records may be no longer held.”
