Boyle concerned over Arts and Heritage Restrictions.

Alliance Councillor, Alderman Yvonne Boyle, has said she is ‘shocked and dismayed’ at the decision by Causeway Coast and Glens Council to further delay the reopening of Arts and Museum Services until January 2021.

These will include Ballycastle, Coleraine and Ballymoney Museum Services.

“We are the only Council area in Northern Ireland to do this,” Cllr Boyle began.

“It is extremely disappointing that the DUP, UUP and SDLP Councillors voted to delay the re-opening of these facilities until next year with very little discussion – a move which demonstrates how little they value the impact of the arts on our society.

“Whilst I understand we are in unchartered territory and have to mindful of the financial future of our area, we cannot underestimate how many people have relied on creativity as a way of getting through the lockdown and Museum services have been active in helping people document their experiences. These services are crucial in the weeks and months ahead as we process this collective community trauma.

Concluding Alderman Boyle said: “Alliance is looking at ways to reverse this shortsighted decision. In the meantime, all those who are interested and have participated in arts and heritage activities in the past and currently online, please contact your Councillor to make your voices heard.”
