Bradley urges NT to reconsider Portstewart Strand closure

East Londonderry MLA Maurice Bradley has today (Monday) been in touch with the National Trust urging them to reconsider their decision to close Portstewart Strand to traffic over the winter months.

Bradley said: “My office has been contacted by several NT members this morning raising concerns.

“Given the fact that many pay their membership in order to access the beach, I believe this decision is short sighted. I have been in touch with the National Trust and I am awaiting a response.

“Portstewart Strand is a well-utilised beach – and in the current pandemic, it is a safe place for people to walk, run and swim in a socially distanced way.

“The closure of the beach to traffic will create a bottleneck on a very narrow road and I have no doubt that it will also create problems for residents in the area, with people being forced to park in residential areas in a bid to access the beach,” he said.
