Councillor Finlay comments on latest Firmus price rise

DUP Alderman John Finlay has expressed his dismay at the latest price rises announced by Firmus Energy.
Alderman Finlay said,

“In April this year, Firmus Energy increased prices for customers in the “Ten Towns” area – which includes Coleraine, Limavady and Ballymoney – by 6.8%. Now these customers are to face a further price hike of a massive 12% with effect from 1 October. As the winter approaches, this is very bad news indeed.

The reason being given for the rise is the significant rise in global gas costs since the tariff was set in April, but this is little comfort to customers, including those who switched from oil to gas. We need better competition. At present, Firmus is the only gas supplier in the Ten Towns, and I would very much like to see others entering the market. In the longer term that would be the best way to keep prices from rising.

Meanwhile, if any of my constituents wish to discuss their direct debit, or have any other billing queries, the Firmus Energy Customer Service team can be contacted on 0800 032 4567. For free and independent advice on how to save energy they can also contact Bryson Energy on 0800 1422 865.”
