Councillor Mark Fielding hopes the Big Wheel will return to Portstewart next summer.
Cllr Fielding said
“The Panoramic Wheel was a positive good news story for Portstewart this summer. It was a welcome addition to the tourist value of the town, to the summer season and visitor experience of Portstewart. The Planning Committee made the correct decision in agreeing with the Planning Officers recommendation to approve the short term duration of the application at this location for the summer period just past in Portstewart and that given its temporary siting it was acceptable with planning policy.
“The Wheel complemented the existing play facilities at the Crescent. There was no excessive noise and any concerns on opening times were addressed. Parking issues were no different from any other summer period.
“The tourist attraction was something new to Portstewart for their summer period, it was beneficial which brought positivity to the area and was supported by visitors, locals, the Community Association, Traders and Councillors.
“I believe the Crescent proved a good location and I hope the Wheel returns to Portstewart next summer if an application is submitted subject to Council consent and Planning approval.”
