Earlier RTC scene in which one male died PICTURES: McAULEY MULTIMEDIA

A person has died following a crash involving a van and a lorry in Coleraine.The PSNI has confirmed that a crash between a van and a lorry and has resulted in a fatality.The Drumcroon Road in Coleraine was closed from Dunhill Road to Kinnyglass Road from around 2pm this afternoon and remain closed. The PSNI, Rapid Response Paramedic, NIAS emergency crew and one officer, Air Ambulance HEMS, and NIFRS attended the scene. A police spokesperson said ‘Police can confirm that a man has died following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Drumcroon Road in Coleraine this afternoon, Wednesday 20 February. The man was the driver of a transit van that was involved in a collision with a lorry shortly before 1.25pm. The driver of the lorry was not seriously injured as a result of the collision. Inspector Colin Shaw is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who was travelling on the Drumcroon Road and who has dash-cam footage of the collision to contact local officers in Coleraine or the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference 595 20/02/19 Councillor William McCandless said ‘This is tragic news and I am sure I speak for everyone when I say our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the deceased resulting from this RTC. You have our heartfelt sympathy.’ Our thanks to The emergency services PSNI, NIAS, NIFRS and Air Ambulance for roadside assistance.’ Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Cllr Brenda Chivers said her heartfelt sympathy and prayers were with the deceased family. Deputy Mayor Trevor Clarke said ‘ I am deeply saddened at the dreadful news emerging this afternoon about the road traffic accident outside Coleraine. Earlier today a male died following a two vehicle crash involving a van and a lorry on the Drumcroon Road, Coleraine around 2pm this afternoon.

The emergency services attended the scene including the Air Ambulance for Northern Ireland. Unfortunately the male driver of the van lost his life as a result of the crash.

A spokesperson for the PSNI has said;

‘Police can confirm that a man has died following a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Drumcroon Road in Coleraine this afternoon, Wednesday 20 February.

The man was the driver of a transit van that was involved in a collision with a lorry shortly before 1.25pm. The driver of the lorry was not seriously injured as a result of the collision.

Another death on our NI roads has shocked and saddened locals with several public representatives offering their sympathy to the family of this male.
