Scorpion Boxing club have announced that they have had to close the club which has been based at the Old School House on Castle Street since the 80’s.

The building is no longer fit for purpose. But the club does intend to continue out of new premises, hopefully at the beginning of the new season.

A club spokesperson said,

“It comes with great regret that after over 35 years of boxing at the old school house due to the building being refused building Grant’s due to ballymoney not being deemed an area of social need that our wee club has been closed down as the building is deemed no longer fit for purpose.

“The club was served notice a few weeks ago from immediate effect.
Beau Mcmullan started the club away back in the 80s and we have always tried to continue the good work that Beau set in place.

“What has happened has deeply saddened and upset us but we are determined that Scorpion will be open for business as usual at the start of the new season.

“We will be moving into the Scout hall next door thanks to help of Eion McGarry and Alan Shiels we have a 2 storie facility with proper toilets and gas heating, over the next few weeks we will be seeking parents and boxers to help assist in painting the place and doing a few jobs to help get the place in order, also if anyone can help with any sponsorship etc please contact Spike.”
