An upgrade to LED lighting throughout the Northern Health and Social Care Trust has been approved by the board at a cost of almost £0.5m.

Members agreed to the replacement at a board meeting last week.

The Trust’s Director of Finance Owen Harkin told the board that the project would provide “potential for significant saving of 60 per cent compared to older lamps”.

“The project will give significant energy improvement and contribute to a 30 per cent reduction target by 2030,” he said.

He indicated that the overall cost of the project is expected to be approximately £475,000 and noted that funding has been secured from the Department of Health for energy efficiency improvements.

Funding from the June monitoring round, a Stormont budget allocation, will enable the Trust to purchase 22 operating tables at a cost of £1.32m. Of these, 18 will be replacement tables and four will be new.
