Improved Broadband for North Antrim welcome – McGuigan

Sinn Féin MLA Philip McGuigan has welcomed the announcement that many rural parts of North Antrim will benefit from the progression of Project stratum.

Mr.McGuigan said:

“Over 78 thousand homes will benefit from full fibre Broadband over the next 4 years and I am delighted that many of those that will benefit will be from the constituency of North Antrim. There isn’t a week goes past without my office being contacted about the issue of substandard broadband.

“Quality Broadband access is an essential service in the 21st Century. That is even more the case in a rural constituency. It is needed for local businesses to carry out their work effectively, for children to do their homework, for filling in many forms online for essential services and even for social contact with friends and family.

“This contract announcement to Fibrus will ensure that the majority of businesses and homes that don’t currently have 30MB will get access to full fibre broadband.

“In north Antrim in discussions with Fibrus I have been assured this will mean that many rural parts of Ballycastle, Armoy, Loughgiel, Ballintoy, Stanocum, Dunloy, Dervock , Ballymoney, Portglenone, Cullybackey, Gracehill, Galgorm, Glarryford will see an upgrade before the end of 2021 with other parts of the constituency to benefit in 2022.

“This is great news and will transform the lives for businesses and families living in these areas.”
