Next of our local council candidate profiles for the Ballymoney DEA, is Sinn Fein’s Leanne Peacock.

Ms Leanne Peacock will stand as a candidate on behalf of Sinn Fein in Ballymoney DEA.

Born and raised in Rasharkin, at only 29 years old Leanne is far from new to politics and attended university to study in Irish history & Politics

Within Sinn Fein she was the first female Chairperson of the North Antrim Sinn Fein Comhairle Ceantair in 2015 and is currently the Chairperson of the Gerard Casey Sinn Fein Cumann in her village of Rasharkin.

Community is important to Leanne and reprints Rasharkin Residents Association as current Chairperson. Within the community and beyond, she lists her charity work and fundraising as important.

In her political life she is the office manager for MLA for Not Antrim Philip McGuigan which gives her a front and centre insight to the issues both locally and regionally.

STATS

Leanne previously stood as a candidate for Sinn Fein in the last local council elections in 2014 along side Philip McGuigan. Philip was elected and took one seat for Sinn Fein but was co-opted to Stormont and in turn co-opted his council seat to Cathal McLaughlin who is running alongside Leanne in this council election.

During the last election Leanne missed out by just 9 votes behind DUP’s Alan McLean who took the final seat in the Ballymoney DEA.

MANDATE

If elected Leanne has set out her priorities to the electorate as follows.

-Lobbying to have road safety measures put in place at ‘Crabby Hill’ which is situated on the Townhill Road, Rasharkin as well as speeding measures on both Rasharkin and Dunloy Main Streets.

-Residentially, road safety also plays heavily on Leannes pledges to put measures in place with several areas around the village. Also in the local village Leanne would like to see lighting improved in the playwark and walkways

-To promote local history and heritage sites locally which includes signage.

-Broadband is a problem in many rural areas around Ballymoney and Leanne would like to see improvements to it’s access in Rasharkin & Dunloy.

Other areas that Leanne, via the Sinn Fein manifesto, is committed to are: Equality & rights for all, marriage equality, legacy rights, opposing Brexit and a hard boarder, defending public services and living wage with a no to zero hours contracts.
