Lifesaving equipment damaged along River Bann

A number of Lifesaving equipment pieces have been damaged or used inappropriately along a stretch of the River Bann, police have revealed.

The equipment in question are called Balcon Bells and are use to aid someone who has got into difficulty in the water.

A spokesperson for the police has spoken on social media, saying: “Unfortunately a number of Balcon Bells along the Castleroe Road, Coleraine walking trail have been destroyed, pulled apart and some thrown into the water.

“This trail runs the length of the River Bann which has an extremely strong current.”

Concluding by urging members of the public to take care of these vital pieces of equipment:

Please remember that these pieces of equipment could someday save either your life or the life of someone you know so please look after them!”
