Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, UUP Councillor Richard Holmes has agreed to host a reception for the Honourable Irish Society to mark the transfer of Coleraine Town Hall to the council.

Members of the Corporate Policy and Resources Committee were informed about the reception, however, the date has yet to be agreed.

Causeway Coast and Glens Council acquired the formal ownership of the Grade B1 listed Coleraine Town Hall at the start of the summer, more than 160 years after the building’s construction.

It is understood council paid a token sum of £1 to the Honourable Irish Society to complete the transfer.

Questions had been raised by some councillors in relation to the ownership of the listed building in Coleraine’s Diamond, however, the Deed of Conveyance for Coleraine Town Hall, between The Honourable the Irish Society and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council took place at the June council meeting.
