The Sinn Féin Councillor Cathal McLaughlin has today praised the prompt response of the emergency services after a fire broke out at a builders merchants on the Crankill Road just outside Cloughmills early yesterday evening.
The fire was reported to the NIFRS at around 6.45pm and up to 8 appliances tackled the blaze at its height, along with support from police and other services.
Speaking about the fire, Cllr McLaughlin said;
“This is a well known and popular business in the area, supplying building contractors for many years, as Robert Guys and lately taken over by JP Corry Ltd.
It is too early for anyone to say how the fire started but I would like to thank the emergency services for their prompt response this evening which saw the road closed and the area secured in a professional manner.
This will no doubt have an impact on jobs within the business itself, and local contractors who depended on getting supplied with building materials.
We all hope JP Corry can get back up an running in this area in the near future.”
