This evening (Thursday) a motion of ‘no confidence’ in current Sinn Fein Mayor Sean Bateson, was debated during a special council meeting.

A short time before the meeting was due to start, Sinn Fein released a statement to say they would not be attending calling it a ‘sham meeting’.

SDLP councillors ‘walked out’ of the meeting according to one councillor, which left the attending Unionist councillors and the two alliance members.

After debating the motion, it passed with 17 for and 2 abstentions, both from Alliance.

(Michelle Knight McQuillan, Joan Baird, Sandra hunter and Norman hillis were unavailable for meeting and Ambrose Laverty resigned the week previous from his council position.)
