New Ballymoney LIDL store taking shape

The new LIDL ‘concept store’ in Ballymoney is taking shape, as construction work continues at the former Taggart’s Yard site on Meeting House Street.

With the exterior going up over the last two weeks, it’s the first time that locals can get an idea of the scale of the new larger store, which when completed, will boast a floorspace of 2,148 sq m. The store will also have 153 onsite parking spaces for shoppers.

Mostly still a construction site, the building work has however been developing at a fast pace since planning was approved in August of last year, and with a goal of opening the new store in March, it all seems to be on target.

“The new and improved Lidl store is certainly a welcome addition to Ballymoney. The store has been providing a service and local jobs to the Town for many years now. I would like to wish the store and the staff every success for the future.” ,

While building work has been ongoing, LIDL have continued to trade just a stones throw away on the other side of the road at their old site. It’s not known yet what will happen to these old premises when they become vacant, if anything, as the company still owns that building at present.

When complete, the new £5.75m concept store, will boast a ‘high quality shopping environment with more space, wider aisles, longer tills, restroom and baby-changing facilities’ according to the company. A similar store is also being constructed on it’s current site in Limavady.
