Peacock disappointed that Rasharkin water capacity issues not to be addressed in 2021-27 period

Sinn Féin Councillor Leanne Peacock has said she is disappointed and frustrated that Rasharkin wastewater issues are not to be addressed by NIwater in the 2021-27 period.

Speaking after a presentation to council by NIwater officials, Cllr Peacock said:

“Rasharkin sewage system is reaching 100% capacity and this has serious implications for future growth and development in the village.

“A presentation was given to Council outlining the niwater plan for the next spending period between 2021 and 2027 and they have no plans to upgrade wastewater systems in Rasharkin to increase capacity.

“This will mean limited growth and development for the village and ultimately planning applications turned down as our wastewater system is not fit for purpose in the 21st century and will not be able to take on additional connections.

“In a modern and flourishing society this is simply not good enough. Our water infrastructure needs to be prioritised and future proofed moving forward if we as a society are to grow, develop and economically prosper.

“I will continue to lobby to ensure Rasharkin has access to modern and fit for purpose infrastructure to support our flourishing community’s growth and development into the future.”
