Police confirm Ballybogey RTC road death as victim named locally

Police can confirm that a man has died following a one-vehicle road traffic collision which occurred at the Ballybogey Road area of Ballymoney this morning (Friday 22nd January).

The victim of the one-vehicle RTC has been named locally as Mac O’Neill (22).

Inspector Mullan said: “Shortly after 6:05am, it was reported that a blue Peugeot 207 was involved in the incident. Tragically, the man died as a result of his injuries at the scene.

“The Ballybogey Road at its junctions with Frosses Road and Tullaghgore Road remains closed following the incident.

“Our enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the collision are continuing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has dash-cam footage available, to contact officers at the Collision Investigation Unit on 101 quoting reference number 212 22/01/21.”

Local MLA Mervyn Storey spoke following news of the fatality, saying: “Sadly this morning a person lost their life as a result of an accident on the Ballybogey Road at the junction of the Tullaghgore Road.

“I want to express my sympathy to the family and friends of the deceased. As with all such accidents on our roads, we have another family plunged into sorrow. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of the deceased as this time of sadness.
We also are not unmindful of the emergency service’s who had to attend the scene, we say a word of thanks and appreciation for their response.
