Police investigating third fire at former social centre

The former social centre building in Ballymoney was the scene of a fire yesterday evening, the third such incident in recent months.

The two previous fires occurred within a week of each other back in June, both treated as a deliberate ignition, with this latest incident appearing to be similar.

Police received the report of the fire at the now derelict property in the Edward Street area of Ballymoney at 8.15 pm.

Police have confirmed that “NIFRS extinguished a small fire inside the building”.

The derelict building is adjacent to two other buildings – one on either side – putting them at risk should a fire take hold and spread, one of which is an active Scouts hall.

Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing to anyone with any information to contact officers on 101 quoting reference 1678 19/08/21.
