Portstewart stand-off ends in arrest

An earlier stand-off with Police in the seaside town of Portstewart has now ended following the arrest of one male.

Police were called to a house at Convention Avenue in Portstewart on Thursday afternoon, including tactical support officers.

After a stand-off, one male was removed from the house by officers and arrested.

A police spokesperson said: “Police responded to a report of the concern for safety for a man in the Convention Avenue area of Portstewart this morning (Thursday 31st December).

“Officers responded and a 28 year old man was arrested for offences including assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“He has been taken to hospital for treatment.”

No further details at this stage.
