At the SDLP’s party conference yesterday in Newry, the SDLP voted in favour of a new partnership with Fianna Fáil.

The partnership with Fianna Fáil passed with a majority of 121 to 53.
CCGBC, Councillor Mulholland said on social media after the vote;

‘One thing about our party is that it offers the opportunity for debate, to put forward your case and for others to do the same. Our party voted unanimously for the proposed partnership with Fianna Fail, whilst still keeping the identity, brand and values of SDLP very much to the fore.

Whatever side of the debate you were on, one thing was for sure, we are all still SDLP, we entered the Conference as SDLP and united we left as SDLP.’

At the conference SDLP part leader Colum Eastwood also spoke to the attendees about the new partnership.

“What we have agreed today is a policy partnership, to try to deal with the very real problems, the crises that are in our politics today.

It is two parties working together for the betterment of this country, that is what we have committed to, that is what we have agreed, that is what we have a mandate for and that is all we are doing today.”
