Sinn Féin Call in Council decision to halt complaint investigation

The Sinn Féin team on Causeway Coast and Glens have this morning signed and submitted a call-in on the decision taken last night to halt an investigation into a complaint in its tracks.

Sinn Féin council group leader Cllr Leanne Peacock said:

“Sinn Féin has this morning signed and submitted a call-in on the decision pushed through last night by the unionist bloc on Council led by the DUP not to even hear an investigation report into a complaint submitted to the council.”

“This report was not tabled on the agenda last night for discussion and as such the proposal breached standing orders but was still allowed to be heard by the Mayor.”

“There was no legal advice available to members to inform their decision and indeed the report itself was not available for members to view on the night nor the authors of the report in attendance to answer questions.”

“ Citizens of Causeway Coast and Glens Council have the right to have their complaints dealt with using the properly documented procedures.”

“This decision last night forced the council to breach its own complaints policy and left councillors unable to make an informed decision, doing their due diligence as they should on all matters that come before this council.”

“This decision has undermined public confidence in the council and its processes and Sinn Féin rejects the attempts from some quarters to circumvent due process.”
