Ballycastle Sinn Féin Councillor, Cara McShane, has praised the efforts of emergency services who attended 3 separate incidents in the Ballycastle area over the weekend.

Cllr Cara McShane said: “I want to thank all of those emergency services who attended 3 incidents in as many days in our local area.

“The multi-agency response, including HMCG Helicopter R199, the Ballycastle and Coleraine Coastguard teams and the Ambulance Service, have to be commended for their quick response on each occasion, which no doubt saved lives this weekend.

“With the Bank Holiday and the good weather, large numbers of people had flocked to the coastline.

“A number of local events were also taking place so the area was particularly busy.

“On Saturday evening, however, an incident occurred at Kinbane Head which involved a woman getting into difficulty. She had to airlifted as it was not possible for the ambulance to access the casualty by road. She was then taken to the Causeway hospital by road ambulance.

“On Sunday, a person was airlifted from Fairhead and taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) – the helicopter landed at Belfast City Airport where the man was then transferred by road ambulance to the RVH. The emergency services also attended an incident earlier in the week at Kinbane.

“I am very aware of the logistical difficulties that emergency services personnel would have faced at both locations; and on behalf of all of our community, I want to thank them everyone involved for their efforts.”
