North Antrim DUP MLA Mervyn Storey has welcomed the announcement by the Education Minister Peter Weir MLA to create 15 extra nurture units. They include Ballykeel Primary School in Ballymena and Milburn Primary School in Coleraine.
Commenting Mervyn Storey said: “Just before lockdown I meet with the Education Minister to discuss with him and his officials the future provision of Nurture schools in Northern Ireland.
“I very much welcome the announcement by the Minister that his Department is to create 15 extra nurture units.
“Among the first Nurture groups was in Ballysally Primary school in 2004 to provide effective support for children who were venerable and experienced barriers to their learning for a variety of social, emotional and academic reasons.
“Nurture provision and its success is evident to see in schools like Ballysally and others that have been established since then.”
