Over the weekend two youths were seen scaling a dangerous cliff face at Kenbane near Ballycastle without any safety equipment!
This incident occurred over the weekend on the dangerous cliff face and picture taken by Kevin McAuley, appears to show two youths making their way up the rocks with the water just feet below, and no safety equipment in place.
Councillor Joan Baird also spoke about this incident, saying;
“This was a very dangerous activity- the young people were not dressed for climbing just wearing track suits and what looks like trainers. We have just had heavy rain and melting snowfall in this area and this means that the cliff surfaces are liable to subsidence on top of the danger arising from scaling a cliff without the proper gear.
This type of behaviour puts not only the young people concerned in danger but potentially the emergency services who may have to mount a rescue.
I would recommend that anyone wishing to climb on our cliffs should get the proper equipment and train with a fully qualified leader.”
