At approx. 5 am on Monday 6th July, Coleraine and Ballycastle Coastguard Rescue Teams and Portrush Inshore Lifeboat responded to a 999 call reporting two swimmers in difficulty in the West Bay Portrush. The two men were quickly brought to safety by the ILB: one was given first aid by the Coastguard Team before being sent to hospital by Ambulance. The two casualties had been attempting to swim out to a yacht anchored in the West Bay prior to the start of the Tall Ships Race.
