An extra £20 a week given to those on universal credit with low incomes during the COVID-19 crisis ends today.

Paul Givan and Michelle O’Neill alongside the First Ministers of Scotland & Wales, have all cautioned the financial impact householders will face.

Speaking the First and Deputy Ministers said: “The removal of this modest uplift from 134,000 people across Northern Ireland will negatively impact on their wellbeing, and that of their families,” commented Paul Givan, with Michelle O’Neill adding, “It is unthinkable that this crucial lifeline would be withdrawn from households with the lowest incomes when they are already facing into a difficult winter.”

Despite lobbying and concern from the NI Executive on this matter, Prime Minister Boris Johnson has continued with removing the Universal Credit uplift.
