Ballymena jewellery burglary caught on video

A burglary earlier this afternoon in Ballymena was caught by an onlooker and posted on social media.

The post on social media, which has since gone viral locally, shows two men making off from the jewelleries followed by a member of staff and several members of the public in chase.

The police have said they have since arrested a Male on suspicion of theft.

Inspector Reid said: “Shortly after 1:10pm, it was reported that two men entered a jewellers in the Church Street area. The males then made off from the scene with a quantity of jewellery from the shop. One male was detained shortly after the incident.

“An 18 year old man was arrested on suspicion of theft. He remains in police custody.

“The second male is described as being 6”0 in height and wearing a red and black jacket, black tracksuit bottoms with white stripes and a white surgical mask covering over his face. He is believed to have made off towards the Broadway Avenue area following the incident.

“Enquiries are continuing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 859 20/06/20.
