A teenager has died following an incident where they are believed to have ‘fallen’ into the River Inver, Larne.
The young person, believed to be a girl, was reported as falling into the river yesterday evening after 9pm.
A large emergency services presence were quickly on scene including a police helicopter, where a search operation began.
A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed a person had been transported to hospital:
“We were called to an incident in Larne at 9pm this evening.
“We responded with a number of resources and one patient was taken to hospital in Belfast.”
However despite all efforts, the young girl was later pronounced dead.
The PSNI have issued the following;
“Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death of a 14 year old girl at the Inver River area of Larne last night, Tuesday, 26 November.
“A post mortem is due to take place and enquiries are continuing.”
The circumstances surrounding how the young person came to fall into the River are as of yet unknown, but will form part of a police investigation.
