Our thoughts are with Edwin Poots and his family this morning, as the Minister for Agriculture has revealed publicly he is battling a cancer diagnosis.
Mr Poots revealed the news to broadcaster Stephen Nolan and has said that the cancer is treatable but that he was considering private treatment due to the stress currently on the NHS and fear that further delays he might face could allow his cancer to spread.
Later this morning the Stormont minister will appear on BBC Radio Ulsters’ Nolan programme, where he will give the full story of his cancer battle.
Mr Poots has however received widespread messages of support from the public, as well as politicians from across the political spectrum, including Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill.
It is not yet known if Mr Poots will take time away from his Ministerial duties to receive treatment, something he may reveal to the Nolan show – broadcast on Radio Ulster from 9 am this morning (Wednesday, January 20).
