JP Corry Building Merchant issue statement after major fire

Earlier today a fire broke out at the JP Corry Building Merchant yard on the Crankill Road heading towards Ballymena.

At the fires height, 8 fire appliances were on scene tackling the blaze which has destroyed a large portion of the yard including buildings.

NIFRS are still on scene of the ‘well developed’ fire. At present the cause of the fire is unknown. Police are helping with traffic management around the scene and have issued the following.

“We are currently dealing with a major incident on the Crankill Road, Ballymena (close to the Apple green). A number of diversions have been put in place for your safety. If possible please avoid the area to allow emergency services make the location safe.”

The company have since released the following statement;

“We can confirm there has been a fire at our JP Corry Ballymena (Robert Guy) branch. Fortunately nobody has been hurt and we are of course working with the local emergency services and will co-operate fully in their investigation. 

Our Pennybridge Industrial Estate branch will be open as usual tomorrow (Monday) to serve customers. We are extremely grateful to the local emergency services for all their work this evening.”
