Lack of Funding for local Greenway projects disappointing – McGuigan

North Antrim MLA Philip McGuigan has expressed disappointment that neither of the two North Antrim Greenways have benefited from today’s funding announcement by the Minister for Infrastructure.

Philip McGuigan said “It is really great to see further investment of £2.8million by the Infrastructure Minister in these six Greenway projects that have been successful.

“I am disappointment though that the two Greenway projects in North Antrim, from Ballycastle to Ballyoney and from Ballymena to Cushendall are not benefitting from this round of funding.

“Greenways will bring positive benefits to local communities, allowing for greater active transport options.

“They will also provide a safe environment for walking and cycling but also link towns and villages providing a great economic and tourism potential. I want to see these benefits for the community ere in North Antrim.

“I have spoken to the Department for Infrastructure on the back of this announcement and there will be future funding opportunities for other Greenway projects.

“We need both Causeway Coast and Glens and Mid and East Antrim Councils to get fully behind these two projects so that future funding can be directed towards making the local Greenway projects a reality.
