The news Chief Constable for the PSNI, Simon Byrne, has been officially sworn in this afternoon.
In the presence of Northern Ireland Policing Board members this afternoon, Mr Byrne swore an oath and signed the official Attesation document, starting his first day in the role as Chief Constable.
Speaking at his attestation he said:
“It is both a privilege and honour to lead the PSNI and serve the great people of Northern Ireland. My promise to you is to act with fairness, integrity, diligence and impartiality at all times.”
