Io The app ‘StopCOVID NI’ will work alongside the current phone tracing system, in order to identify those at risk from the virus, to minimise it’s spread.

A person who tests positive for COVID-19, will be sent a unique ID number by text. If that person uses the app, they can enter this code.

This will tell the app to automatically sent notifications to others, also using the app, that were in contact long enough with the person that they may be at a higher risk of the virus.

There has however been worry and concern about the lever to which users will be tracked and traced, but assurances have been given that use of the app is voluntary.

The app will also not store any identifiable information in order to comply with GDPR.

The app is the first of its kind in the UK to go live, beginning from tomorrow (Friday 31st), but can be downloaded from today.
