Police issue advice to parents about new online chat room website
P

The PSNI have received information about a website that can be accessed by children, where other’s from around the works can chat with these young people, without needing to state their identities or location.

Speaking about the chat room website, a police spokesperson said: “This chat room in question is called ‘Omegle’ and can be accessed on a device with a internet connection. It offers random chatrooms and video conferences connecting to random people throughout the world with very little known about the person on the other line.

“So, to keep your wee ones safe online, ensure internet chat rooms such as this one are blocked via your computers security software and parental controls throughout all devices in the home. Take an interest in what your children are viewing online, especially during these times of lockdown and the kids being home more often. Finally, ask your children if and who they have been talking to online, which can be done through online gaming & streaming channels. Sometimes, the person on the other end isnt who they say they are.
