DUP North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey has expressed sadness at the passing of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Commenting, he said: ‘‘The Duke of Edinburgh has been a towering and much-loved figure in British life for generations and his death will be rightly mourned throughout our society.
“As someone with a strong interest in Northern Ireland, he visited North Antrim on many occasions and left an indelible mark on the lives of those he met. I think particularly of the hundreds of young people across our towns and villages who found enjoyment and purpose in the Duke of Edinburgh awards.
“Of course, his loss will be felt most deeply by Her Majesty The Queen, his companion of 73 years, and our thoughts and prayers are with her and rest of the Royal Family at this incredibly sad time.”
