Prince Charles made a visit to the University of Ulster today shortly after 3pm, as part of the University’s 50th celebrations.
Ulster University is Northern Ireland’s largest university and their multi-campus dynamic means that they have their roots firmly embedded in the local community. As a regional university, with four campuses spread across the province, they have a strong sense of civic responsibility and are uniquely placed to engage with communities, with local leaders and with imaginative partners who share their ambitions for Northern Ireland and its young people. This visit will mark the first event in the University’s 50 Anniversary year.
Leading the celebrations is Dr Karise Hutchinson, Provost of the Coleraine campus. Karise is a Coleraine native, studying on the campus as a teenager before returning later as a lecturer.
Ulster University is an anchor institution in this community – much more than a centre for academic and research excellence, it brings many positive economic, cultural and social benefits to the Causeway region. The celebration is not just about reflecting on past accomplishments, it is also an opportunity to look forward to the university’s future contribution.
Over the coming months, a vibrant network of ambassadors, united by their connection to the campus, will tell their unique stories of sporting endeavor, community activism and civic leadership- advocacy which has transformed the local community by raising the profile of this region at home and abroad.
Other points of interest include a new £5.1 million sports complex at the Coleraine campus was completed; a contract to develop Northern Ireland’s first Enterprise Zone at the Coleraine campus was signed in an exciting collaboration with the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, which will be integral to the region’s investment proposition and economic growth; an £11m two-year construction project to expand teaching provision at the Magee campus was completed..
