The first of a number of meetings has taken place between the new Chief Constable and representatives of local political parties, beginning with Sinn Fein.

During his first day in office, the Chief Constable wrote to MLA’s, MP’s and the newly elected MEP’s, setting out his intentions to build ‘positive partnerships’ with all elected representatives.

The meeting with Sinn Fein included The Chief Constable, Deputy Chief Constable and a member of the PSNI senior team.

It was described as a ‘constructive and positive’ meeting with the party on Monday (8th July) evening to discuss a range of issues.

Speaking after the meeting, the Chief Constable said,

I have already met with the Sinn Fein representatives on the Policing Board and I welcomed the opportunity this evening to engage with the party at leadership level. It is important to ensure the Police Service remains responsive to community concerns and works in partnership with all elected representatives and I intend to have ongoing engagement with all the Parties at leadership level.”

The intention seems to be that meetings with other parties will be ongoing throughout the Summer and that a number these have already been arranged at senior level.
