Kilrea Councillor expresses heartfelt condolences follow road deaths

SDLP Kilrea-based councillor, Helena Dallat O’Driscoll, has expressed her
heartfelt condolences following the tragic deaths in a road traffic
accident on the Lisnahunshin Road, outside Portglenone.

Paul and Varena Creelman and Varena’s brother, Phil Hegarty were involved
in the two-vehicle RTC which happened shortly before 11am morning.

All three were pronounced dead at the scene.

Councillor O’Driscoll said: “I was filled with sorrow when I learned of this terrible accident. The
local community is likewise shocked and saddened.

“It is a very sad day for Kilrea, particularly the residents of Coleraine Street. I wish to express my deepest sympathies to the Creelman and Hegarty families. I know that the people of Kilrea will rally around them at this awful time to provide every support that they may need.”

North Antrim MLA Mervyn Storey also expressed his sympathy:

‘‘We can’t begin to imagine the shock and hurt for the loved ones of those who have sadly lost their lives.

“Any death at any time is heartbreaking but in these sudden and tragic circumstances the grief and pain experienced will be even more profound.

“Our prayers are with the families and friends of the deceased, and indeed the entire community, at this difficult time.’’

Inspector David Anderson said: “I am appealing to anyone who witnessed this
collision, or who may have captured dashcam footage, to contact us on 101
quoting reference number 591 27/07/20.”
